In lending, that means your work touches underwriting models, fraud detection, collections automation, and customer-facing chat systems. If you want to stay relevant in 2026, you need machine learning skills that make you useful in production, not just in notebooks.

You do not need to become a research ML engineer, but you do need to know how models get packaged, versioned, and exposed behind APIs. In lending, a scoring model that can’t be deployed with rollback controls is a liability, not an asset.
Learn how to serve models with FastAPI, BentoML, or KServe, and understand containerization patterns for CPU-heavy inference workloads. A DevOps engineer who can manage blue/green deployments for an underwriting model is immediately more valuable than one who only knows how to deploy web apps.
