    You need to know where AI belongs in a fintech architecture and where it absolutely does not. A solutions architect who can draw the boundary between “assist” and “act” will stay valuable.

    Learn how to connect models to enterprise systems through APIs, tools, function calling, and event-driven workflows. In fintech, this matters because your AI layer will usually sit on top of CRM, case management, core banking, payment rails, document stores, and risk engines. If you can design reliable orchestration instead of one-off prompts, you can build systems that survive production traffic.

  3. Data governance and retrieval design

    Most fintech AI failures are not model failures; they are data access failures. You need to understand vector search, document chunking, access control at retrieval time, PII redaction, audit logging, and source attribution so the model only sees what it should see. This is especially important for policies, loan documents, dispute handling, underwriting notes, and internal procedures.

A realistic timeline: spend 2 weeks learning LLM basics and API patterns; 2 more weeks on retrieval and governance; then 2–4 weeks building one production-style prototype with evals and controls. That is enough to become credible in architecture reviews without disappearing into a year-long research track.
